Doctor Dixie Jazz
Band con Henghel Gualdi

Led by trombonist and doctor Nando
Giardina, the Doctor Dixie Jazz Band are one of Italy’s historic jazz
groups. They were formed in 1952 in Bologna as a university band
called “Magistratus”.
They have had a long and successful career. Their many festival
appearances have always met with acclaim, and in 1962 they won the
“Coppa del jazz” for the best traditional jazz group. They have
appeared on countless radio and television shows, including “Il
signore del 21” with Ernesto Calindri when the guest was Louis
Armstrong, and more recently they have appeared on the Maurizio
Costanzo Show. Doctor Dixie have released more than thirty recordings
(often with special guests, including Paolo Conte, Renzo Arbore, Lucio
Dalla, and even Gerry Mulligan) and worked on three films with
director Puppi Avati. In May, playing together with Henghel Gualdi at
the reborn Bologna Jazz Festival, the Doctor Dixie Jazz Band
celebrated their fifty years in music.
