George Russell
Living Time Orchestra

Russell is a virtuoso, not
of an instrument but of thought that becomes composition: as one
critic aptly noted,Russell “plays” the orchestra, and he is one of the
few - perhaps the only - composer whose ability to create a new
language can be compared to that of Duke Ellington. It was Russell who
guided the jazz of the bebop tradition towards the avant garde,
maintaining a balance between improvisation and written composition.
