Gotan Project

As the oft-quoted saying goes, the tango is a sad thought which can be danced. From today, with the Gotan project it is also a sad thought which can be sampled. The idea of taking tango out of the naphthalene of the acoustic tradition and injecting it with large doses of hi-tech sampling, electronics and beat programming belongs to a group of musician-agitators who go by the names of Eduardo Makaroff, Philippe Cohen Solal and Christoph Muller. Theirs was a fantastic idea, and it has made the Gotan project (gotan is an anagram of “tango”) the musical sensation of recent times.
